Operating a profitable events business is notoriously challenging. It can be doubly hard in Westchester, where you face stiff competition from New York City, plus every surrounding suburb. And for Suchet Mitter, CEO of Castle Royale, a swanky events space on Yonkers’ Waverly Street, the latest challenge presented by the COVID-19 outbreak may be the biggest one yet.

“We are taking it on a week to week basis,” Mitter says of operating the space during the crisis. “Our main priority is the safety of our clients, as well as our staff. We are working closely with clients to accommodate their event at a later date.”

Being able to pivot and face unexpected challenges has helped Mitter ensure that Castle Royale thrives. Since taking over the 500-person-capacity venue in 2017, Mitter has remade it, with top-to-bottom renovations, new branding, and close working relationships with wedding and event platforms, including The Knot.

Mitter is a hands-on leader, overseeing everything from marketing and design to managing scores of employees. “A typical day includes meeting with clients and the sales team, researching new ideas, and making sure we are prepared for each and every event of that week,” he says.

Though he came from a family of restaurateurs, Mitter took his parents’ advice to pursue medicine, earning a master’s degree in hospital administration. But it quickly became apparent that hospitality was Mitter’s true calling. “I realized I could apply what I learned from my master’s and invest that knowledge into my own business,” he says.
