Michael Hershfield, 29
Michael Hershfield joined Mount Vernon-based Beautiful Screens as CEO in 2018. The company, which creates games and other applications for use with connected TVs, has grown exponentially since his arrival. Offering some 18 apps when he joined the firm, Beautiful Screens now offers more than 275 games and utilities for approximately 325,000 users, a number Hershfield says will continue to rise.
To ensure that growth, Hershfield recently contracted four new designers and programmers to add to Beautiful Screens’ app menu. His aim is to attract an ever-larger share of the expanding consumer market for smart TVs and connected TV devices. “As of last year, more than two-thirds of American households had [an Internet-] connected TV device,” Hershfield explains. “We are riding that wave of growth upwards, and it’s been a really exciting journey.”
Hershfield says he honed his analytical skills at his alma mater, Hofstra University, where he was a math major. Add in a serious work ethic (“I always give everything 110%,” he says) and what he calls an entrepreneurial “itch,” and it’s no surprise that Hershfield is a young CEO on the move, with an equally dynamic company under his stewardship.
