New Rochelle resident Fawad Piracha went directly from high school into a six-year doctor of pharmacy program at St. John’s University, receiving his Pharm.D. in 2016. And though he debated between medicine or pharmacy, the latter won out: “I always liked the fusion of business and healthcare,” he explains, saying that “pharmacy epitomizes that.”

After completing a fellowship in pharmacovigilance and risk management at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and then working for the company, he joined KabaFusion — a national provider of specialty home infusion services — in 2019 as a vice president of clinical affairs.

His responsibilities there are myriad, ranging from clinical research to working with biopharmaceutical manufacturers to heading up the company’s speakers bureau program, he says, where, “we have key opinion-leader physicians speak to all of our employees on a regular basis.” The variety of projects he works on is what he finds most exciting.

Since the start, Piracha has felt taking a more “nontraditional” approach to his career — versus, for instance, going the retail or hospital pharmacist route — has been rewarding. “I think that differentiating myself from that standpoint has really been beneficial for me, and it’s exposed me to a lot, which makes me understand how broad this profession really is and how broad healthcare is altogether, and what I, as a pharmacist, can do to benefit people,” Piracha says.
