What Westchester Really Thinks About Religion

We asked—you answered.

Practicing What Is Preached

How often do you participate in an organized religious activity?

45.6% – On major religious holidays
30.1% – Never
12.3% – Weekly
9.8% – Monthly
2.2% – Daily

Split Decision

When it comes to religion in schools, your responses were split down the middle: 42.9% of you
don’t believe any specific religion should be taught in schools, but wouldn’t mind setting aside
time for something like a silent prayer
—while another 42.9% believe that religion has no
place in public school
, and any vaguely spiritual activity should be done on one’s own time.
(The remaining 14.2% of you either sought out religious education or are in favor of having
religion taught in public schools.) We guarantee that, come pop-quiz time, some
of those kids will be praying in their seats.
