Westchester Property and Violent Crime Rates Low

Crime? What Crime?
The best thing about our houses is that it’s not such a big deal if we forget to lock them up. Sperling’s Best Places compiles a crime index on a scale of 1 to 10—1 being the safest, 10 being the most crime-ridden—and Westchester County scores a 2 for both property crime (burglary, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson) and violent crime (murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault). The country’s average, meanwhile, is 4 for both. Move up the line even a little bit—to, say, Dutchess or Rockland Counties—and violent crime nudges up to a 3. We may pay a dear price, financially, to live here, but at least we don’t have to worry that the rest of our hard-earned money will be robbed while our backs are turned.
