Better keep those seat belts fastened and cell phones out of your hands while driving, Westchesterites. The county police are introducing their newest trick to keep bad drivers off the roads: ghost cars, which are low-profile white Crown Victoria police cars, minus the rack or lights on the roof. Rather than red and blue, the county police decal on the side of the car is another shade of white.
The ghost car comes as a response to motorists who stop speeding, talking on cell phones, or texting as soon as an easily recognizable police car is within site – and then pick up with their bad driving habits as soon as the cop vehicle has passed.
The plan is to use just one ghost car for all of the county-patrolled highways.
Do you think “ghost cars” are a good idea?
