Westchester Cookbook Author Loses Copyright Lawsuit Against Jessica Seinfeld

A judge ruled last week that Jessica Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld’s wife, did not plagarize from Westchester cookbook author Missy Chase Lapine’s book, The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids’ Favorite Meals.

Lapine, whose book is a New York Times bestseller, had filed a copyright infrigement suit against Seinfeld in early 2008, alleging that the comic’s wife plagarized recipes from her book, which offers methods for sneaking healthy ingredients into children’s favorite foods. Seinfeld published her book, Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food, five months after Lapine. While the judge sided with Seinfeld, she did not rule on Lapine’s related defamation claims against Jerry Seinfeld, who made fun of the author on The Tonight Show with David Letterman. Lapine will continue to pursue her defamation claims in a state court, according to the Times.
