Westchester Children and Cooking: Chef Central and Kids r’ Cookin’

Two County establishments to teach your kids the ins-and-outs—not to mention safety—of the kitchen.

Chef Central
Hartsdale (914) 328-1376; chefcentral.com
Parents, you deserve a break from kitchen duty once in a while. Why not have your kids prepare a meal? They’ll learn valuable lessons about healthy eating habits, and you get to kick back and supervise with a cocktail. Chef Central offers a calendar full of classes for young children and teens, teaching them how to make everything from pull-apart pizza bread to fondant cupcakes…all the best food groups! For burgeoning executive chefs, weeklong cooking camps for teens are offered during the summer.

Kids r’ Cookin’
(914) 937-2012; kidsrcookin.com
You don’t have to wait until your child is a teenager—or even a kindergartner—for him or her to start helping you in the kitchen. At Kid r’ Cookin’, tykes as young as 2 can take cooking classes (along with a parent, of course). They’ll learn kitchen techniques to prepare all types of meals and snacks—while focusing on healthier meals. In its “Chefs-to-Be” class, kids 4 and up will learn simple recipes that they can, in turn, prepare for you at home. Instructors are available for parties, too!
