We Test: Yahoo!’s New Finance App

Yahoo! Finance has recently released a free iPad application designed to help users track finance news, personal portfolios, and stock tickers. Yahoo! Finance MarketDash provides real-time updates, the ability to manipulate stock charts, and the ability to sync with desktop, iPhone, and Android devices. Key features include: market data with real-time quotes and key statistics; interactive charts that include timeline features and the ability to compare multiple stocks on one screen; headlines with up-to-the-minute content from Yahoo!, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, and Barrons.com; and the ability to create a personal watch list and headline feeds. We asked Frank Sisti, managing director at Clarfeld Financial Advisors, Inc., in Tarrytown to give this free app a try. “Overall, my impression is that it is very bland,” Sisti says. “You can’t type in quotes without having to add them to the portfolio list, and the main screen can’t be modified to make certain sections larger or smaller. You don’t seem to be able to customize it too much.” He did, however, enjoy the up-to-date news listings
