In a seemingly inevitable move, developers throughout the county are adjusting to the changing face of today’s home buyer by building more affordable condominiums that cut out unnecessary bells and whistles. The numbers speak for themselves: according to a home builders’ association survey from 2008, more than half of respondants said they were already building smaller, or intended to do so. Furthermore, the square footage of new homes decreased by 7 percent last year (the equivalent of one room)—the first decrease of its kind in 15 years.
