Mount Pleasant—A rash of burglaries has prompted town officials to reactivate the town’s Neighborhood Watch program. So far, dozens of residents have signed on to volunteer for the effort, which will now incorporate e-mail as a communications method among town residents.
Mamaroneck—Mamaroneck police thought they’d spotted a suspicious package inside a car resembling a bomb, but, after notifying the county bomb squad, it was found that it was actually a piece of a Halloween costume.
Bedford—Richard Gere and Martha Stewart teamed up with the Bedford Historical Society to raise money to renovate the Historical Hall on the Village Green.
Port Chester—Suzi Oppenheimer of Mamaroneck hosted a geography bee at Port Chester Middle School involving five local middle schools. Both the winner and runner-up were students from PCMS.
New Rochelle—According to the 2011 budget that was approved in December, New Rochelle will see its tax rate climb by 2.81 percent, raising the rate to $175 per $1,000 of assessed value.
