When not performing surgery as a founding partner of the Brain and Spine Surgeons of New York in White Plains, Dr. Ezriel Kornel enjoys performing on stage. Here, the Bedford Hills resident, last seen at the Chappaqua Crossing Theater as Ganesh in Terrence McNally’s play A Perfect Ganesh, shares his five favorite regional theater venues.
1) Schoolhouse Theater (Croton Falls) This nonprofit theater is housed in a beautiful landmark building that was formerly an elementary school. Its production of The Crucible by Arthur Miller “would have pleased the author,” Dr. Kornel says. |
2) Hudson Stage Company (Pace University, Briarcliff Campus) Dr. Kornel likens the ambience of this 135-seat theater to that of an intimate off-Broadway space. “I was delighted by a wonderful production of Manhattan Casanova starring James Kiberd, an outstanding television and film actor, that Hudson Stage performed here.” |
3) Emelin Theatre (Mamaroneck) |
4) Ridgefield Theater Barn (Ridgefield, CT) |

5) Yorktown Stage (Yorktown Heights) “This theater hosts the Taconic Opera Company, which performs some remarkably high-quality well-known operas—without the high costs of a night of opera in Manhattan.” |
