Nancy Circelli. The New Rochelle wife and mother of three became New York’s third $1 million Powerball “Power Play” winner since New York began participating in February. Circelli purchased her winning ticket (for the October 20th drawing) at Lou Pino’s Deli on Pelham Road.
Westchester County Community College. It recently hosted the first-ever “Superconductor Technology Summit,” drawing a mix of business leaders, government officials, researchers, and students to discuss cultivating more superconductor-related research and business in Westchester.
Katonah residents. They raised $7,500 in just three weeks in order to preserve the town’s annual holiday tree lighting last month, after the Chamber of Commerce informed them that it didn’t have the money to do it this time.
LOSERS
Students at Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary in Buchanan, Anne M. Dorner Middle School in Ossining, and Woodside School in Peekskill.
The three Westchester schools were among the 99 schools statewide added to the Education Department’s annual list of most under-performing schools.
Yonkers taxpayers. The Yonkers Police Department was criticized in a new state audit for having a much higher percentage of overtime as a percentage of total base salaries in 2009 (35.9 percent) than Mount Vernon (13.3 percent) and Rochester, New York (8.2 percent), which the report viewed as comparable cities—something Mayor Amicone disputes.
Michael Wolfensohn. According to a report by the Journal News, the New Castle councilman called police on a couple of 13-year-olds for selling baked goods in a Chappaqua park without a permit.
