This Month’s Holidays

September 3—National Skyscraper Day • At 484 feet and 44 floors into the clouds, the South Tower of The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester, in White Plains is the County’s most prominent ’scraper—literally. Celebrate the birthday of architect Louis Sullivan, “the father of skyscrapers,” by shooting up to the hotel’s top-floor 42 The Restaurant and having a drink high above the city.

September 13—International Chocolate Day • It’s Christmas for chocoholics everywhere today. Whichever variety you prefer—white, dark, milk, salted, or infused—treat yourself to a sweet reward, without an ounce of guilt. While you voted Chocolations in Mamaroneck Best Chocolate Shop in Westchester this year (try the fruit/nut-packed bark), we’re partial to Stew Leonard’s frothy, farm-fresh chocolate milk.

September 29—World Heart Day • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the world’s leading causes of death. This year, the Geneva-based World Heart Federation is emphasizing CVD prevention particularly among women and children, who may be less vigilant about their risk. Start scheduling family walks and other activities and up your fruit and vegetable intake at each meal to help keep yourself and your loved ones on the road to healthy hearts.

Polite persons, learned line dancers, and philharmonic fans, see here: September is also National Courtesy Month, International Square Dancing Month, and Classical Music Month.
