The Latest Town News in Ardsley, Yonkers, Croton-on-Hudson, Bronxville, and New Rochelle

ARDSLEY—The village played host to the filming of The Wolf of Wall Street, a Martin Scorsese movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, and Matthew McConaughey. Residents eager to get a glimpse of the actors lined the sidewalks near Addyman Square, while the production snarled traffic through the village’s five-way intersection.

YONKERS—Nearly 30 residents were left homeless after a four-alarm fire (which police think was set on purpose) ravaged an apartment building on Webster Avenue. Several pets are believed to have perished in the blaze.

CROTON ON HUDSON—A 23-year-old senior at Hunter College has become the youngest elected official in Westchester County history, landing a seat on the village board after winning the Democratic primary; there were no Republican challengers.

BRONXVILLE—The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted the village $4.4 million to solve chronic flooding problems that have cost local taxpayers about $30 million in repairs to schools and homes in the past 10 years.

NEW ROCHELLE—Members of more than a dozen arts and cultural organizations were joined by local veterans in supporting a proposal to convert the former armory on Echo Bay into a live-entertainment venue, the Veterans Memorial Performing Arts Center. A competing proposal to use the building for restaurants and food stores, however, garnered the city council’s vote.
