Roses are red, and if Megan DeMichiel had her druthers, violets would be, too. You see, for as long as she could remember, everything that mattered to this August bride of the month has been colored red.
“Red has been my very favorite color since I was a baby,” she says, noting that even her nursery was red. That said, when it came to planning her wedding, Megan stayed true to form, from the stunning rose petals strewn about the aisle and the silver candelabras holding abundant bunches of red roses, to the five-tiered red wedding cake custom-made by Aux Delices. Event planner Diana Gould of Elmsford helped make this dream come true with seamless style and grand-scale elegance as she complemented Megan’s plans, ideas, and efforts all the way through.
Megan and Joseph met in college through mutual friends and, after a five-year courtship, Joseph finally popped the question. Anticipating this day, Megan had downloaded an image of Britney Spears’s engagement ring as Joseph’s computer screensaver. (Megan is admittedly a giant fan of anything Britney.) As she had hoped, the ring Joseph selected was the identical twin of this singing icon’s ring; a cushion-cut diamond with double diamond lined bands on either side.
The couple was married before 400 guests (many flown in from Italy) at St. Cecilia’s Church in Stamford, Connecticut. Their gala reception followed at The Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. Joseph and his groomsmen wore formal suits by Hugo Boss. Megan chose a Monique Lhuillier mermaid-style lace gown with a low-cut open back. Her bridesmaids, of course, were ravishing in red. Even the family dog, Brick (yes, as in brick-red), was part of the bridal party, sporting a canine tux (made by Megan’s godmother, Karen Pollock) complete with a bright crimson bowtie. The music, provided by Hank Lane Orchestras, included both a live multi-piece band and a DJ. The bride and groom had their first dance as husband and wife to At Last by Etta James. A traditional sit-down dinner was followed by a gala Viennese table in authentic Italian style.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, following the reception, the entire bridal party and the immediate family were whooshed off to Megan and Joseph’s after-party at the Sheraton Hotel in Stamford in—what else?—a fire-engine red trolley waiting curbside!
Megan was truly the blushing bride till the very end.
