Susan Marocco’s Red Splash Refreshes a Subdued Kitchen

A bright red hood over the stove provides a striking focal point, balanced by ruby tupholstery on barstools and dining chairs. t

It was the red range hood that won us over. “The client wanted a pop of red,” says designer Susan Marocco. And they sure got it. An auto body shop had to apply 16 coats of paint to a new stainless-steel hood to get the effect, well worth the effort.

Whitlock: Daring! The backsplash and cabinets are refreshing and varied from the norm.

Lima: This kitchen features masterfully selected finishes and shows us that color is not to be feared! The prominent focal point, clearly the red hood over the stove, is balanced with red barstools and dining chairs. The other colors and finishes are much more subdued, creating a sophisticated space which is exciting and vibrant. I really enjoyed the darker finish and change of countertop material on the island, creating a subtle and sleek palette for the more dominant red accents.

Buscarello:  I love how the splash of red enlivens the space!

Mintz: Who says a chromatic color pop can’t transform a space?
