With musical options from classical to rock, blues, and everything in between, aspiring musicians of all stripes will find their niche at Eastern U.S. Music Camp. Small classes taught by professional educators, solo artists, composers, and conductors give campers a chance to develop and rehearse original compositions in preparation for the gala concert at summers’ end. Musicians can study more than one instrument and/or voice and participate in several groups, choosing from options including symphonic band, jazz ensemble, symphony orchestra, concert choir, chamber orchestra, and several others. If that’s not enough music immersion, classes in music theory, conducting, composition, and harmony are also on offer.

New York Film Academy Summer Film and Acting Camp

High-school drama queens and kings can pack their bags and hop the Metro-North to attend the New York Film Academy’s teen summer programs at the schools’ Battery Park City campus. The camp offers sessions in acting, filmmaking, digital filmmaking, advanced digital video, 3D animation, screenwriting, photography, musical theater, and broadcast journalism. Living at the downtown campus and shooting on location throughout New York City gives teens a chance to experience the twin thrills of big-city life and the independent film scene. Big-time guest speakers like Steven Spielberg, Kevin Spacey, Ron Howard, and Glenn Close add to the allure for movie-mad high-schoolers.

Fine arts, theater, rock music, dance, filmmaking, and circus arts are all on offer at this 200-acre campus in the heart of the Adirondacks. Budding performers chose an entirely customized daily schedule of seven one-hour periods to hone their creative skills—with fun add-ons like wakeboarding, ATVing, and horseback riding. Each summer, campers produce more than 30 Broadway shows, as well as hundreds of music performances, three circus shows, a dance festival, rock concerts, comedy performances, and art shows. Notable camp alumni include Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody, actress Rumer Willis, and Rolling Stone writer Vanessa Grigoriadis.
