Student Q&A: Croton-On-Hudson Eighth-Grader Meredith Kehoe

The Northern Westchester middle-schooler on surfer Bethany Hamilton

Meredith Kehoe, Croton-on-Hudson | 8th Grade

What is the biggest misconception about kids your age? That we are lazy and that we don’t put effort into anything. I put lots of effort into things I do [especially] things that I like or value.

What’s the best thing about being a kid in Westchester?
I think it is great that we live so close to New York City. Also, I think Westchester has lots of different places to go to.

And the worst? It is very costly to live here. Extracurricular activities cost my parents a lot so I have to be selective.

What activities do you participate in? I dance twice a week, play on a club soccer team, and take acting classes at a local place in town.

What was the best part of 7th grade? Science and social studies. I loved both of my teachers.

What’s the best way to get kids to eat healthy? I think it is a good idea to educate children about the consequences of not eating healthy and also the good things that can happen if you do.

Who is smartest: your mom, your dad, or the president? My mom because she is a teacher and she understands my problems!

Who’s your idol? Bethany Hamilton. She never gave up and fought for what she loved. Even though she got bit by a shark, she still got back in the water.

What’s the best way to keep kids from drinking and doing drugs? Inform kids about the consequences. I think also talking about their reputation and how doing drugs and drinking could affect this in a negative way.

What do you and your friends talk about when you are together? Life, boys, celebrities, and school.
