Iconic columns, soaring archways, intricate mosaics, and other compelling features of Moorish and Byzantine architecture have inspired a handsome new collection of upholstery by Sina Pearson, head of the eponymous New York City-based textile-design and manufacturing studio. “Treasures of the Mediterranean” includes two striking new designs in a total of 17 colors. A large-scale geometric that references the famous columns and arches of classic Moorish architecture, the Alhambra pattern—named for Granada’s sumptuous Alhambra Palace—is offered in a palette ranging from soft neutrals to jewel tones evocative of the era’s embellished stone carvings and tile work. With its smaller-scaled diamond motif, the Mosaic pattern calls to mind the delicate mosaics of the Byzantine churches and is featured in such rich colors as Amethyst and Fire Opal.
The new fabrics are sustainably woven in an American mill of post-consumer recycled polyester yarns and solution-dyed nylon. The solution-dye process ensures exceptional fade-resistance near windows or skylights. Test results for these extremely durable fabrics far exceed the Association of Contract Textiles’ standards for high performance. And because the yarn fibers are finished with an advanced stain barrier, spills wipe right off, making the collection ideal for dining areas, family rooms, and kitchen banquette seating. Available at The Open House in Rye for $100 per yard. For more info: (914) 481-8470; shoptheopenhouse.com.
