What woman hasn’t stood inside a closet full of clothes bemoaning the fact that she has absolutely nothing to wear? Waccabuc resident Scarlett De Bease, a fashion stylist, personal shopper, and president of Scarlett New York Image Consulting (914-441-0756), offers help to those who can’t find what to wear.
What is the most common mistake women make when shopping for clothes? They get hung up on size. I have my clients try on two sizes; it gets them thinking about fit rather than the number on the tag.
Who is your favorite women’s designer? Tahari. Their pieces mix and match well with other labels and they don’t look outdated after a couple of years.
And what jeans do you like? Not Your Daughter’s Jeans. They fit most women, hold their stretch better than any others I’ve found, come in a nice dark wash, and cover a little more of the tummy—eliminating the overflowing muffin-top thing. They fit great and look hip. For women who are more curvy in the hips, Cookie Johnson is also a good brand.
Favorite shoe designer? Stuart Weitzman. For the most part, they’re comfortable—unless they’re six inches high and very stylish—and they last a long time.
Where do you most like to shop locally? For myself, TJ Maxx! And Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom.
What’s your favorite shopping website? I like shopittome.com. You plug in what you’re looking for and when there’s a sale from that designer, it sends you an email with the link.
Why pay $500 for a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes? Will they actually last longer than a $100 pair of shoes? No, probably not—you’re buying the name and the thrill, which I certainly can understand.
