If you are reading this letter, you have had the good sense to pick up this first edition of 914INC., the latest venture from the publishers of Westchester Magazine.
Essentially, 914INC. is a lifestyle business magazine. It will not replace the daily or weekly newspapers that give you the latest business news from our communities. Instead, it is designed to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the people and companies that make Westchester the place it is today. As Westchester County Executive, I know firsthand that there’s an infinite number of interesting stories to tell, an infinite number of interesting people to find out about. Learning about them adds to the vibrancy that makes Westchester such an attractive place to live and do business.
There’s an old business saying that goes: “The toughest time to invest is right now.” It certainly holds true in these tough economic times. And few businesses have gone through more turmoil and reinvention than publishing. But in good times and bad, successful business decisions come down to having confidence in one’s ability to bring value to customers. The launch of 914INC. is a show of confidence by its publishers in both their product and in the Westchester marketplace. I applaud Westchester Magazine and its publisher, Ralph A. Martinelli, on both counts.
Thank you for bringing a new editorial voice to life and for having the confidence to be successful “right now.” I wish you great success today and for many years to come.
Rob Astorino
