Berkeley College announced the appointment of Dallas Reed as Dean of Student Development and Campus Life. In this role, Dr. Reed will be responsible for all aspects of student life at the New York campuses, and will work closely with students, faculty, and staff in the creative design and implementation of student-development programs.
Before coming to Berkeley College, Reed served as Associate Vice President for Student Life at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi, where she assisted in the management of residential life, career services, counseling, campus safety, and student activities, among other responsibilities.
She holds a PhD in Urban Higher Education from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi; an MSOL (Master’s of Science in Organizational Leadership) from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, North Carolina; and a BA in General Arts and Sciences with an emphasis in Public Relations and Management from Pennsylvania State University
New York-area accounting firm Marks Paneth & Shron LLP has announced that Anthony J. Tempesta ( above left) has joined the firm as a partner in the Nonprofit and Government Services Group. Mr. Tempesta will be based in MP&S’s Westchester office in Tarrytown, and will play a key role in carrying out that office’s overall growth strategy.
Tempesta most recently was President and Managing Partner of Tempesta & Farrell, P.C., the CPA firm he co-founded in 1996. His nonprofit clients include public charities and private foundations, such as the Greentree Foundation, New York University, and the Outreach Project.
Tempesta previously had served as Corporate Controller for the United States Banknote Corporation. He began his career at Touche Ross & Co. He earned a BS in accounting from St. John’s University, where he was elected to Omicron Delta Epsilon, a national economics honor society. Tempesta has spoken at and contributed to accounting industry education forums, including the Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE). He currently serves on the boards of two nonprofit organizations.
Mayda Davis (right), of Yorktown Heights, has been named Practice Administrator at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, where she will be responsible for overseeing the independent medical groups and common practices.
Until recently, Davis was at WESTMED Medical Group, where she developed and directed the Corporate Compliance Program. Prior to that, she was with Kaiser Permanente in White Plains serving as Physician Network Administrator.
Davis holds an MS in Health Care Systems Management from Iona College, and a BS in Human Development and Family Relations from the University of Connecticut.
New businesses, relocations, and operations
Mount Vernon-Based DGC Capital Contracting Corporation announced that it has been chosen for two prestigious projects in the apparel retail market: two “shop in shops” for Donna Karan in Manhattan – one in Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street and Lexington and the other in Lord & Taylor on 38th Street and 5th Avenue. Both projects are remodels of existing stores.
Renovations on both Donna Karan New York stores, which are approximately 2,500 square feet each, began on August 18 and were completed in under a month—just in time for Fashion’s Night Out in New York on September 8. In fact, inside the Bloomingdale’s Donna Karan store, DGC custom-built a 40-foot ceiling mirror, which is the only one of its kind in Bloomingdale’s.
Prudential Douglas Elliman, the largest residential brokerage in New York and the fourth largest in the United States, announced it has acquired Chappaqua-based Siderow Realty Group.
Siderow was founded in 1994 by Sheila Siderow, who will now be based with her team at Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Chappaqua office.
“I am thrilled to join Prudential Douglas Elliman,’” said Siderow, in a written statement. “I believe that the firm’s culture, unsurpassed network of agents in New York City, Long Island, the Hamptons, and Westchester, as well as their extensive marketing and technology resources will greatly benefit my clients and the community at large.”
Stark Office Suites, a provider of premium turn-key office space and high-end amenities for professionals and entrepreneurs, announced it is partnering with back-office operations firm NexFirm to offer comprehensive office space and back office solutions for small law firms.
The partnership with NexFirm allows Stark Office Suites to offer its clientele a comprehensive solution to address nearly every business need including accounting, finance, IT, human resources, benefits management, administration, and operations, the company says.

Purchase-based PepsiCo, Inc., announced it has been included in the 2011 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI). PepsiCo is ranked as the number-one company in the DJSI Food and Beverage Supersector, the only company based in the United States to earn a top ranking in the 19 supersectors assessed. PepsiCo was also named the beverage sector leader for the third consecutive year.
PepsiCo has now been named a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index six times and the World Index five times. The DJSI comprises companies across all industries that outperform their peers in numerous sustainability metrics, including economic, environmental and social criteria such as corporate governance, environmental reporting, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, and talent attraction and retention.
