Brother James J. MacDonald |
Iona College announced that Brother James J. MacDonald, CFC has been appointed to the position of vice president of advancement for the college. An experienced development executive, Brother MacDonald comes to Iona with over 30 years of managerial, educational and fundraising expertise. One of his primary goals will be to oversee stewardship activities by building and nurturing long-term relationships with major gift donors.
MacDonald’s appointment is the result of the need for future expansion of Iona’s endowment initiatives, while ensuring that the legacy of the Christian Brothers remains steadfast as part of Iona’s mission.
Prior to this appointment, his most recent position was executive director of advancement for the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers of North America.
The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester announced that Kasey Miller has been appointed catering sales manager.
Miller has worked with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company for eight years, having come to The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester in 2009 as senior meetings and special events manager. Prior to that, Miller was meetings and special events manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island and at The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C.
Miller received the Employee of the Quarter award and the 5-Star Employee of the Year award in 2004, while working at The Ritz-Carlton, Washington D.C. She received the Leader of the Quarter award in 2007 at The Ritz-Carlton, Washington D.C. as well.
In her new position, she will be responsible for catering sales, specializing in weddings, social events, (bridal showers, baby showers, and anniversaries) and corporate day meetings and events.
Miller is an active member of both the Duke Club of Central New Jersey and the alumni chapter of the Alpha Omicron Pi Women’s Fraternity.
Enea, Scanlan & Sirignano, LLP of White Plains and Somers announced that Helene Rahal has become an associate at the firm.
Rahal, who speaks both French and Arabic, attended Pace Law School, from which she graduated summa cum laude and received her Juris Doctor. She ranked third out of 223 candidates in her graduating class.
Rahal will concentrate her practice in elder law, Medicaid planning & applications, guardianships and wills, trusts and estates.

Wiley C. Harrison, President of Business of Your Business, LLC in White Plains, has been named to the Board of Directors of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. His appointment was approved unanimously at a September 13 board meeting.
A resident of Greenburgh, Harrison earned his BS from Wilberforce University in Ohio and his MBA from Columbia University. He founded Business of Your Business, LLC in 1992 in order to provide accounting, payroll, and tax services to churches, nonprofits and small businesses.
Harrison is president of the board of the Thomas H. Slater Center; an executive board member of both The Business Council of Westchester and the Westchester-Putnam Workforce Investment Board; and a member of African American Men of Westchester and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. In July, he was appointed by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council.
Cerebral Palsy of Westchester’s Board President Richard N. Osterer announced the election of two new members to its board of directors, Edward and Adriana Delaney, who began their one-year terms in August 2011. Edward Delaney, the vice president of operations for the YES Network, was one of the first employees at YES and was responsible for planning and executing the launch of the network in just under five months. He has won two Emmy awards for coverage of New York Yankees baseball. Adriana Daley is a full-time mother of three children and was a manager in the human resources department at Alpharma, LLC, a multinational pharmaceutical company that develops, manufactures, and markets animal health products in more than 50 countries.
New businesses, relocations, and operations
Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, New York Medical College, and Open Door Family Medical Centers have announced the launch of the first family medicine residency program in New York State since 1995.
The NYMC Family Medicine Residency Program was recently accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the national organization that oversees all residency training programs in the U.S. This new residency program, a joint venture undertaken by three of the major health institutions in Westchester County, will help subdue the critical shortage of primary care physicians in the U.S. and reduce healthcare costs.
New York Medical College will serve as the sponsoring academic institution for the new program. More than 80 Phelps physicians will supervise and teach residents during their three years of training.
Port Chester-based Zyloware Eyewear, a global supplier of high-quality eyewear, is the first privately-held company based in Westchester County to convert from fluorescent lighting to LED lighting. Zyloware’s new 50,000-square-foot facility is illuminated by LED lights from manufacturer Seesmart, Inc. The retrofit began at the end of last year, and Zyloware’s offices and distribution center now shine with 700 clean, energy-efficient, Seesmart LEDs.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Tarrytown announced that it was ranked the no. 2 Top Employer in the global biopharmaceutical industry in Science Magazine’s annual survey. Regeneron ranked higher than well-known biotech firms Genentech (no. 3), Amgen (no. 6) and Merck (no. 12).
The survey polls employees in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, and related industries to determine the driving characteristics of the top employers and to identify the top 20 employers from a universe of about 200 companies.
With nearly 1,700 employees and growing, Regeneron is one of the region’s fastest-growing companies and the largest biotech company in New York State.
Hickory & Tweed, located in Armonk, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Skip Beitzel, the current owner of the shop, first visited the store during its first year in 1961 and worked there during high school, eventually purchasing it from original owner Jimmy Ross.
