Blockbuster Bash

Steven Spielberg—the legendary director, producer, screenwriter and the man who brought us E.T., Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and many other memorable films and who co-founded DreamWorks and contributed so much more to cinema and to popular culture—came to Westchester to help the Jacob Burns Film Center celebrate its 10th anniversary. Said Steven Spielberg at the event, which was attended by 600, “I have not heard of anything like this Jacob Burns Film Center happening anywhere else in the world. What makes this Center unique is not the fact that more films are shown here annually than there are days in the year, or your researcher that must drive himself crazy looking for those films. The thing that makes this Center different from every other well-intentioned organization that brings community and film together is the educational outreach to so many schools.” Board member and Greenwich, Connecticut, resident Ron Howard, a noted actor and director himself, presented Spielberg with the Burns’s 2011 Vision Award. Shortly after the event, it was announced that Spielberg woul join the Burns Center’s Board of Directors. Proceeds from the evening benefited the Center’s education and outreach programs, which serve some 12,000 students in grades pre-K through 12, many of whom participate free of charge.
