Westchester has been aiming to attract biotech companies for years, and the expansion of Regeneron in Tarrytown into a new, $112-million, state-of-the-art laboratory complex in Tarrytown, as well as OSI Pharmaceuticals’ move from Long Island to Ardsley, mark major successes for the county.
In luring the companies, the county beat out major cities like New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Diego, and San Francisco—based on factors such as economic incentives (meaning tax exemptions, close proximity to the Washington and Tappan Zee Bridges, and the highly educated nature of the area’s work force, to name a few.
