R5 Westchester: All Work and No Play(land)?

While taking a spin on the Dragon Coaster is a rite of passage of every Westchester resident, it’s not without a cost—and we don’t mean just $30 and a few bucks for a souvenir photo. Losing taxpayer money for years—we own the park, after all (or at least the county does)—Playland is now on County Executive Rob Astorino’s chopping block. We polled you, our readers, on our website, asking if you think the beleaguered amusement park should be shuttered. Overwhelmingly, you let it be known that you value the mild thrills of wooden coasters: at press time, 79 percent of those who responded to our survey insist that Astorino look elsewhere to save some pennies, while only 21 percent feel it’s time to cut our collective losses and pull the plug on Playland.
