CORTLANDT—A 62-year-old town resident was happily reunited with her lost dog, Gertie, when Gertie was discovered by others 15 miles away from where she went missing—seven months ago.
YONKERS—The city experienced its first homicide of the year when a 21-year-old man was shot in the head on Palisade Avenue late in the evening of May 3. The city has averaged nine homicides per year over the last four years.
BEDFORD HILLS—A new partnership forged between The Food Bank for Westchester and the Westchester Land Trust will see crops grown on some of the Trust’s land to feed hungry county residents through the Food Bank.
VALHALLA—Pretzel, the Westchester County Police Department’s first-ever narcotics dog, was euthanized after she lapsed into kidney failure at the age of 13. By the time she retired in 2008, after an eight-year career, Pretzel had conducted nearly 500 searches, sniffing out more than one ton of marijuana, 100 pounds of cocaine, and 10 pounds of heroin.
NEW ROCHELLE—A 10-year-old resident was arrested for felony robbery after repeatedly punching his victim (another boy) and threatening to stab him if he didn’t hand over his money.
