New York’s top court, the Court of Appeals, voted for the removal of State Supreme Court Justice Joseph Alessandro because he attempted to avoid repaying—and then concealing—a $250,000 loan from a campaign worker.
The court found that both Alessandro and his brother, Francis M. Alessandro, a Bronx Civil Court judge, acted to conceal the debt. While Joseph Alessandro was removed from his position at the Court of Appeals, his brother received only an admonishment.
