R5 This Month's Winners and Losers, October 2012

WINNERS
–    Hudson Valley Pet Food Pantry. Based out of the Ridgeview Congregational Church in White Plains, the all-volunteer pantry gives free pet food and supplies to more than 165 low-income and disabled residents of Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties so that they can keep their pets (hvpetfoodpantry.org).
–    Selena Bailey Watkins. The Yonkers resident, a dancer and fitness trainer in the City and a volunteer dance instructor at Gorton High School, was crowned Miss Black USA in a ceremony in Washington, DC.
–    Jerry Levine. At 82, the Cortlandt resident is the oldest climber to successfully reach the summit of all 46 Adirondack High Peaks. Levine climbed the final two with his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. More than 100 well-wishers greeted him at the summit of the final peak—including his wife.

LOSERS
–    Terrance Raynor. The former chief criminal investigator for the county DA’s office allegedly enjoyed more than $13,500 in property tax breaks on his third home under the STAR program for seniors—while Raynor was in his 40s.
–    Annette Williams. The 70-year-old Peekskill resident was arrested by Yorktown police for felony robbery after holding up the jewelry department in the Macy’s at Jefferson Valley Mall while claiming she had a gun. Williams stole more than $1,700 in merchandise.
Diane DiDonato-Roth. The North Castle councilwoman’s bid for state senate was derailed by her Republican primary opponent, Bob Cohen, who successfully challenged nearly 1,000 of the 1,786 signatures DiDonato-Roth’s campaign collected to place her name on the primary ballot, bringing her total under the 1,000 required.
