R5 This Month’s Holidays: May 2013

May 4—Free Comic Book Day • Established in 2002, Free Comic Book Day is celebrated by independent stores throughout North America on the first Saturday of the month. As the date nears, you can visit freecomicbookday.com to find a nearby participating store where you can pick up a free comic book.

May 4-12—National Wildflower Week • The second week in May marks National Wildflower Week. Bring the holiday to your backyard and identify the wildflowers that may be growing on your property or plant a native species that will flourish through the warm months.

May 18—International Museum Day • International Museum Day was established in 1977 to draw attention to the role that the arts play in our society. This year’s theme, “Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change,” recalls that museums “are meant to contribute to community development.”
