VALHALLA—Several inmates at the Westchester County Jail filed a $500 million civil rights lawsuit in federal court for being denied the use of dental floss. The inmates maintained that their lack of flossing has contributed substantially to avoidable dental problems, for which they alleged they’re receiving substandard care. The jail responded by bringing in floss loops that can’t be used as a weapon.

MOUNT VERNON—Residents Bob and Dolores Solano recently celebrated their 50th anniversary, having “met” for the first time at Mount Vernon Hospital in the nursery—after being delivered by the same physician just hours apart. The two would reunite years later in middle school. Today, they have four children and nine grandchildren.

PEEKSKILL—Support is growing for the city to commission a monument to honor a unit of mostly free blacks and freed slaves from the Revolutionary War, who fought to the death after a British ambush. A design was chosen from more than two dozen entries, and the proposed memorial has been awarded a $50,000 state grant; the total cost is estimated at $300,000.

RYE—Felony-level charges were dropped against Max Meyerson, Sean Pinson, and Tristan Scragg—the three Rye High School teens accused of assaulting several eighth-graders as part of a hazing. The charges were reduced to misdemeanors as part of an expected plea agreement between the DA’s office and the three boys.

NEW ROCHELLE—The city has earned the dubious distinction of being the site of the largest methamphetamine bust in New York State history. The DEA and police seized approximately 50 pounds of meth from a boarding house on Church Street; the stash was valued at $1 million.
