Say yes to the yoga, but no to the studio. Who wants to be cooped up inside when it’s so nice out?
On June 20, take the yoga mat to the streets. The Mental Health Association of Westchester is sponsoring the county’s first Mega Yoga Event, blocking off Court Street in White Plains from Main Street to Martine Avenue for those wanting to take an alfresco class after work. Gwen Lawrence—who teaches yoga to the New York Giants, Knicks, and Yankees—will lead a class geared towards students of all levels. The first 500 registrants will receive a complimentary yoga mat (so you don’t have to get yours dirty!) and a gift bag, and healthy food and drinks will be offered. “We want to promote an understanding of the connection between physical and emotional well-being,” says Amy Kohn, DSW, CEO of MHA Westchester.
If you want to warm up during the day—and maybe get a good view of the river—YogaWorks is holding its own outdoor event to coincide with the MHA Westchester’s that will take place in the Scenic Hudson Park at Irvington, where a coupling of active-yoga-with-asana classes go from 9 am to noon. (Bring your mat.)
