Who wants to spend summer in the gym? It’s time to take that workout into the great outdoors. Whether you’re looking for an excuse to get a little fresh air or you really want to get into bikini-ready shape, there’s an alfresco workout for you.
I’m more interested in sunshine than in sweating.
Tai Chi in the Sculpture Garden
June 3, 10, 17, 24
Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah

People have practiced tai chi in some form or another since the late 1500s—there must be something good about it, right? Even if you don’t believe that the martial art is beneficial to your health, you can take tai chi classes in serene surroundings when the Katonah Museum of Art hosts a series of Sunday-morning sessions in its outdoor sculpture garden. After class, you can explore more Chinese culture inside the museum, which is hosting the Rising Dragon: Contemporary Chinese Photography exhibition.
I wouldn’t mind glistening a little.

If you attended the Mega Yoga Event in White Plains (see box page 52) and lost your taste for the studio, you can extend your outdoor opportunities through the rest of the summer. The Yoga Loft moves beyond the loft (which, granted, is gorgeous in its own right) and onto the grounds of the Bedford Post Inn, where views of the verdant 15-acre property will help you achieve spiritual enlightenment. (Bring the kids to the June 17 event, which is geared to families.) Yoga Spa’s outdoor classes take place on the campus at Manhattanville, with the dramatic Reid Castle in the backdrop.

Boot Camp by the Beach

I want to work my a** off.
Boot Camp by the Beach
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays
Rye Town Park, Rye
Tuesdays, Thursdays
Crawford Park, Rye Brook (914) 473-3790 ryebootcampbythebeach.com
Sure, the waves look pretty, but ever try running on the beach? (Just thinking about it makes us feel exhausted.) Personal trainer Lee Sandford will not only have you running on the dunes at Rye Town Park, but also lunging, squatting, and pushing up in order to tone that body into perfect summertime shape. She’s also started a second series of classes at Crawford Park in Rye Brook, which doesn’t have the same sandy environs—but don’t expect Sandford to go easy on you there. She’s a tough drill instructor.
