Study
The theme of nature runs through the Décor of the study, whose decorative motifs reflect the home’s wooded surroundings. “I pictured that the person who uses the study might be a traveler,” says Croton-based designer Lisa McTernan of Lifestyles and Interiors by Lisa. She therefore chose pieces such as tortoise shells, Chinese calligraphy brushes, and goddess heads to adorn the shelves and botanical prints to grace the walls. The room’s color palette—warm browns, ivories, and muted chartreuses—draws inspiration from the Audubon painting that hangs over the black alder wood desk. Textured weaves are gently tossed between the love seat, floor lamp, blinds, and desk chair.

Mudroom
Combining function and style, the extended mudroom serves as the optimal informal entrance to the house. A hand-painted slogan crowns long storage cubbies perfect for stowing outerwear, shoes, and sports gear, while an elegantly decorated console table adorns the passageway that leads guests to both the study and kitchen.

Powder Room
The mudroom powder room exudes a serene, spa-like feeling while picking up the Asian decorative influences found in the kitchen. “We wanted to incorporate other elements found in this area of the house,” says Bedford-based architect and designer Carol Kurth. The burnt orange in the beautiful slate floor inspires the accent color featured in other accessories.
