Daniela Cocucci, Eastchester | 12th Grade
Do you have any role models? I would have to say all four of my grandparents. I am in awe of the fact that they came to this country from Italy with nothing and were able to realize the American Dream on their own.
What school subject are you most interested in? English. I have always loved to read.
What was the highlight of your junior year? Getting my license along with my friends. And it was the year that we were allowed to leave the premises for lunch!
What after-school activities do you participate in? I am on the soccer team and the girls’ varsity basketball team. I also work at the local pharmacy in town.
Isn’t that a lot? It’s not too much because these are things that I love to do. My job is very flexible, so, if I have a game or tests to study for, they will give me time off.
Where do you hang out in Westchester? The Westchester mall in White Plains, Westchester’s Ridge Hill in Yonkers, or Starbucks in Eastchester. I like going to Cosi in New Rochelle with my friends and we also go over each other’s houses.
What are you good at? I think that I am a pretty good basketball player and I am very good at getting along with just about anyone.
What’s the best way to keep kids from drinking and doing drugs? Keep yourself busy with things that you love. In my case, I love sports, I work, I love to run and work out, and I am very busy with school.
When did you get a cellphone? My parents got me a simple flip-phone when I was 10. I got a BlackBerry when I was older and then eventually an iPhone.
Are you on Facebook? No, I have never had a Facebook account—too busy.
