Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey. Recently, I chatted with Lew Bryson, managing editor of Whisky Advocate, and I’ve become all sorts of jazzed about the tradition of whiskey-making in New York and Pennsylvania. I grew up with a vague notion that good whiskey came from Scotland or Kentucky horse country, so I’m thrilled that whiskeys from geography that I know are coming back into favor. This is a good, small-batch, distilled rye from Pennsylvania, not the spine-rattlingly overproof kind, but a gentle, peppery sip that’s perfect to enjoy by the fire after a long and very good meal.
