R5 Sina Pearson's Scandanavian Modern Collection of Upholstry

In addition to ABBA—and its annoyingly memorable “Dancing Queen” —and those addictive fish-shaped gummy candies, Sweden is known for its timeless, clean-lined, mid-century home design. Enter the new Scandanavian Modern collection of upholstery fabrics by Sina Pearson.

An homage to the eponymous textile designer’s own Swedish heritage, the line offers a trio of patterns in various color palettes that celebrate the iconic mid-century style. These include Villa, a textured, tone-on-tone pattern inspired by the period’s hand-woven fabrics; Cut Circle, a bold geometric pattern whose half-moons were developed by slicing paper dots in half; and the solid Eureka, an elegant, leather-like polyurethane. The collection’s color scheme, designed to flatter natural wood furniture, is both lively and earthy.

Pearson drew inspiration from the modern Scandinavian furnishings in her Pacific Northwest childhood home. Bought during a 1963 visit to Sweden, the bookcases, dining buffet, teak chairs, and upholstery fabrics still look timeless today, she says. Her new fabrics are similarly designed to last. Priced at $78 to $104 per yard, the collection are available through design professionals and to consumers through select showrooms, including Fabu Fabric in Bedford Hoills.
