New Activewear Store (Pictured)
Acadia on Main Mount Kisco
(914) 666-6800
Whether you’re into hang gliding or just hanging out over a post-yoga latte, this shop has you covered with its brilliant collection of stylish, technologically-advanced, and eco-friendly clothing and gear. You could play tackle a salesperson under the buzzing fluorescent lights of a big-box store to find such sought-after labels as Patagonia, Mountain Hardware, Prana, Birkenstock, Arcteryx, etc. Or you could head to this natural-light-filled store and avail yourself of the friendly advice of owners/outdoor sports enthusiasts Jane
and Dan Sims. (Is that even
a choice?)
Designer Jewelry Collection
R&M Woodrow Jewelers Rye
(914) 967-0464
There’s bling, there are baubles, and then there’s the really good stuff. For seriously beautiful jewelry from the most prestigious designers, there’s Woodrow Jewelers. Picture an assemblage of mini-boutiques showcasing the collections of internationally acclaimed designers such as Roberto Coin, Marco Bicego, Judith Ripka, Leslie Greene, and Kwiat. Then imagine some of their more stunning pieces gracing your—or your loved one’s—neck, wrist, and/or finger. We’re dreaming about the 18-karat gold cuff timepiece handcrafted by famed Italian jeweler Buccellati. (It comes with a $39,900 price tag—we dream big.)
Affordable Custom Party Dresses
Coquette White Plains
(914) 358-5215
Not working with a Red Carpet budget but eager to avoid the embarrassing “She’s wearing my dress!” syndrome at the next big Sweet 16, prom, quinceañera, or bar mitzvah? Check out this trendy boutique’s head-turning, designed-to-order collection of party dresses by in-house designer Ana Cariete (whose ready-made line is carried nationally). Mix and match colors, lengths, styles (halter, strapless, one-shoulder, etc.), and fabrics (satin, silk, chiffon, jersey, etc.) to create the dress of your dreams—at a delightfully down-to-earth price of $60 to $600.
New Men’s Store Combo
Lubin’s at Rothman’sScarsdale
(914) 713-0300
What happens when upscale specialty men’s clothier Rothman’s invites Lubin’s, the 56-year-old young men’s clothing institution (it has dressed generations of bar mitzvah boys), to move into his Scarsdale shop? Y-chromosome clothing kismet. From boys to men, all are suitably attired here at this brilliant—and stylish—pairing of retail roomies. Expect a top-drawer selection, superb service, and fine, Old World tailoring—times two.
Auction House
Clarke Auction Gallery Larchmont
(914) 833-8336
Chain-store merchandise has its place, but you want your home to be unique—not a replication of every other house in Westchester. At Clarke Auction Gallery, also known as C&C Auction Gallery, the items are vintage, antique, and often one-of-a-kind. Plus, for the money you spend, you usually can find something that’s of higher quality than you’d find in the stores on Central Avenue. And, if you get outbid for your favorite item, you won’t have to wait too long before you can find something else to lust over; the Gallery holds 20 auctions a year, plus monthly sales, two special art sales per year, and a storage cleanup sale.
No-Frills Restaurant Supplies
Harris Restaurant Supply Port Chester
(914) 937 0404
If you’re a cook who’s had it with glitzy department stores and gourmet shops soaking your wallet, head over to Harris for the real deal in kitchen supplies. Shop alongside chefs wearing their kitchen whites, and buy the same stuff that they use in their restaurants. Sure, the showroom’s basic, just piles of stuff on shelves, but you won’t find any of that Becky-Home-Ec-y junk that clutters most kitchenware aisles.
High-End Watches
Daniele Trissi Ltd. Scarsdale
(914) 723-4500
You’ll want to take your time ogling stunning timepieces at this 30-plus-year-old shop owned by a third-generation jewelry maker. You’ll find close to 800 watches from such acclaimed Swiss watchmakers as Cartier, Corum, Jaeger LeCoultre, Girard Perregaux, Bucherer, and Chopard, including one Breguet stunner that carries a cool $800,000 price tag. “We come from the Old World of watchmaking,” says owner Solly Refael, “so we really know our products.”
Unique Boutique
Eileen Fisher Lab Store Irvington
(914) 721-2897
An Eileen Fisher fan? Lucky you—now you can indulge your passion for this popular designer’s clothes while helping a good cause. Her new boutique, right near the company’s corporate headquarters, not only offers an intriguing mélange of merchandise, including samples (many not available elsewhere), best picks from the current and previous year’s line, and gently loved recycled items, but proceeds from its special recycled section benefit charitable initiatives designed to help empower girls and women. Since its September launch, more than $90,000 has been raised from the sale of 2,100-plus pre-worn garments. So, go ahead! Do some damage—and do some good.
New Boutique (Men’s and Women’s)
Churchills of Mount Kisco
(914) 666-4800
The merchandise here will make you think you’ve been whisked straight to Barney’s or Bergdorf’s. It’s high-end. It’s beautiful. And it’s fashion-forward. (And all that money saved by staying local? Let’s just say it won’t be burning any holes in your pockets here.)
