R5 Salon O’s Omar Roth Offers Tips for Frizzy Hair

Spending time in the pool and at the beach can lead to frizzy, dry, or lifeless hair. Omar Roth, owner of Salon O (239 Mill St, Greenwich, CT 203-531-3000; salono.net) offers tips to bring it back to life: “You can get rid of chlorine and detergent buildup with a simple mixture of one tablespoon of baking soda and one quarter cup warm water. Comb through your hair and let it sit for five minutes, then shampoo and condition as usual. Do this weekly, especially if you swim a lot. For dry hair, one of my favorite fixes is honey, a natural humectant, which means it attracts and locks in moisture. Massage one-half cup of honey into clean, damp hair, let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. You can also mix in a tablespoon of olive oil for easier application. If your hair is in really bad shape, you can add avocado or an egg yolk, which helps replenish the keratin protein bonds that UV rays attack. Do this once or twice a month. I also recommend keeping Huile Céleste by Kérastase in your beach bag to protect your hair and preserve the color. It is a super-lightweight spray to use whenever you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the sun. First wet your hair with fresh water, spray on, and comb it through, periodically reapplying during the day.”
