R5 Restaurant Review: Black Angus Steak House

hungry? Good. Bring a nice, big, hearty appetite to Black Angus Steak House, an expansive, cavernous eatery that recently opened on one of Yonkers’ main thoroughfares. You won’t leave hungry.

Portions at Black Angus are generous. Real generous. This eatery is not for the low-cal diner (although there’s a health club above, just in case guilt overtakes you, after you’ve enjoyed your meal).

Diners can begin their meal with a generous helping of clams on the half shell or home-made crab cakes (fresh crab meat, fried and served with sour cream dressing). Or perhaps a hot bowl of home-made soup. But don’t fill up on appetizers: certainly not if you’re a steak fan. Steaks—big, juicy, sizzling steaks—are the house specialty.

But not just any steaks. Black Angus offers authentic, aged prime Black Angus, grilled and carved to your choosing and served sizzling on a hot platter. The steaks—some seem big enough to feed a family of four—are accompanied by a special house steak sauce. But Angus steak, as steak lovers know, taste beefy and divine unadorned.

Among the steaks offered: “Tyrannosaurus” prime rib, a two-inch thick cut of broiled prime steak; prime porterhouse (choose your size: for two, three, or for four persons); a hearty shell steak; and filet mignon. The tender filet is served with cooked mushrooms and demi-glaze sauce on the side.

Entrée choices include a potato dish and a house vegetable. Among those offered: sautéed broccoli, creamed spinach, sautéed broccoli rabe and sautéed spinach. Among the potato choices: garlic mashed potatoes, baked potatoes and French fries.

If you’re not an unabashed carnivore, don’t despair. Black Angus offers seafood specials and pasta dishes as well.

In addition to a large-size bar area, the restaurant has a spacious cigar lounge and there’s live entertainment Thursday through Saturday evenings.

And for dessert? Your choice: Italian cheesecake or tiramisu, both fresh and home-made, or a rich crème brûlée. Odds are good you’ll go home with a doggy bag or two.  Tomorrow’s lunch.
