What word do most women use to refer to their breasts?
The clear majority use ‘boobs.’ Others call them their ‘girls’ or ‘the twins,’ and some even give each one of them a separate name, like ‘Mary is fuller than Susie.’ One woman in her mid-sixties called them her ‘plates’ because ‘they used to be balloons, but now they’re flat.’
What’s the most common reason women give for coming to see you?
‘Oprah told me to get my bra fitted properly’—even though that segment first aired years ago.
Do you show your own bra to your customers?
Yes, always, so that they can see how one is supposed to fit.
What do you recall about buying your first bra?
I went to Sears with my mom when I was about twelve. I wasn’t measured—someone working there took a guess at my size.
What celeb needs a major bra makeover?
Wendy Williams. When you look at her on TV, all you see are her breasts—which are fake, by the way. They could—and should—be minimized with a proper bra.
What percentage of your clients would you say have had plastic surgery on their breasts?
I’d guess about thirty percent—mostly implants. Minimizing is extremely rare.
Can you tell by just looking at someone if their breasts are God-given—or courtesy of a plastic surgeon?
Yes—whether they’re wearing clothes or not. You can tell by the way they sit up and are separate from one another. With natural breasts, you’ll see cleavage in the center of the chest.
What celeb has great breasts—and wears a bra that shows them to their best advantage?
Scarlett Johansson has nice, full breasts and they look amazing in the Panache bra she’s shown wearing in the movie Iron Man 2.
What’s the most common fit error you see?
The band is too big or worn too loosely—you get support from the band, not the cup. If you raise your hand and you see breasts at the bottom of the band, it is not snug enough. Also, cups that are too small. You don’t want any spillage of the breasts out of the cups—we call that ‘muffin top.’
How often should a woman have her bra re-fitted?
About every six months or if you’ve gained or lost ten pounds, are working out a lot, or after pregnancy.
What’s the proper way to care for a bra to ensure that it lasts and maintains its proper fit?
Hand-washing and -drying after every two wearings. Any detergent is fine, but I really like one called Soak.
Do you walk around giving women imaginary bra makeovers?
Yes. I take the bus to work, and there was a woman I’d been eyeing for months. She was full-busted and her breasts were spilling out of her cups. I didn’t want to say something like, ‘Hey, I’ve been staring at your breasts.’ But one day, she randomly came into the store and I was able to help her. When I finally told her the whole story, she said I should’ve said something sooner.
If you could, with whom would you like to swap breasts?
Beyoncé. Her breasts are the perfect shape and size—not too big and not too small. And she can go without a bra.
