More than 400 people, including stars of the art world, curators, Purchase College students, and Neuberger Museum members, came to the opening of American Vanguards: Graham, Davis, Gorky, De Kooning and Their Circle, 1927-1942, as well as Visionary Sugar: Works by Kiki Smith.
American Vanguards explores the art and influence of artist John Graham and his circle on the advancement of American modernism. The Neuberger is the first stop on a national tour.
Visionary Sugar is an exhibition of new, multi-media work by artist Kiki Smith and includes gilded sculpture, drawings on Nepal paper, and tapestry designs.
Besides Smith, contemporary artists Ursula von Rydingsvard, Leslie Dill, Seton Smith, and Arlene Shechet were in attendance.
