R5 Officers at Westchester County Jail Accused of Abusing Inmates

After reviewing of hundreds of cases between 2006 and 2007 at Westchester County Jail, prosecutors are alleging that officers used excessive force on inmates—including juveniles—and then attempted to cover up the incidents by writing false reports.

Examples of the abuse include, but are not limited to: needlessly shoving inmates into objects, using injurious holds during escorts, using pepper spray on prisoners at point-blank range, and disregarding some inmates mental impairments when taking action.

Prosecutors are calling for training methods and rules for officers to change.
