Avenue P
2105 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont
(914) 630-2002
In 2007—and, coincidentally, just weeks before the economy crashed—high rents forced former high school art teacher Andrea Assael to shut her popular Larchmont boutique’s doors. But now Avenue P is back, to the delight of its many fashion-loving fans. Located in a different, cozier space, the shop continues to target folks who crave “the opposite of trendy,” says Assael. Expect an array of small, high-end labels like Johnny Was, Ohm, Hazel, and Matisse, most from the United States, France, and Brazil. Prices range from a $30 scarf to a $350 velvet coat. Assael’s wardrobe advise? “Stop buying twenty cheap items from TJ Maxx and start buying three things you love, love, love!”
Clutch
1905 Palmer Ave, Larchmont

With go-to accessory shops like Plaza II and others closing their doors, Judy Graham, owner of Larchmont’s longtime beauty boutique, Pink on Palmer, knew just what she wanted to become of the store that became available next to hers: a boutique specializing in handbags, and scarves, belts, wallets, gloves, and jewelry. So she opened this intimate plum-and-gray space with a comfy sofa in the middle —it’s like the big walk-in closet you wish you had at home—to showcase products from “new and interesting designers that you can’t find in the department stores,” she says. Prices range from $20 to $600 and include purses, totes, and clutches by B. May ($80-$600) and Henri Lou ($150-$300); wool, cashmere, sequined, and fringed scarves by St. Honore and others ($20-$100); Twitten hand-knit texting mittens ($30-$40); and jewelry by Mali and Michelle ($100-$250).
