R5 Mid-Century Mecca

If mid-century is your thing and the thought of a hot-pink, velvet-upholstered Lucite rocking chair ($2,200) or brass-and-chrome Paul Evans étagère ($7,000) sets your heart aflutter, head to Mason. Scouring estate sales and working with dealers from around the world, co-owners Courtney Mason, a former fashion publicist, and Kristin Gallipoli, a designer who once lived in a nearby Phillip Johnson house, have curated a smart collection of Danish and American furniture (we drooled over a pair of Milo Baughman chrome arm chairs for $4,200), lighting from Belgium and Austria, artwork, and decorative accessories, primarily from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. “We like to have fun with mixing things up,” Mason says. “It’s not a rule that you can only have modernist furnishings in a modernist home; you can do that in a traditional home, too. Just have fun with it.” Don’t see what you’re looking for? The pair also has two huge warehouses full of additional 20th-century treasures. Design services are available.
