“Throughout the house, the intention was to maintain the integrity of the traditional detailing while creating open spaces for modern living,” says architect Michael Gallin. “The second-story loft was an innovative way to layer and connect informal family living space above the formal living and dining room. In the kitchen, open display shelving affords a similar connection between the work area and a family recreation space.”
Whitlock: I like the varied use of lighting: cove, under-cabinet, and down lights. The open shelves in the kitchen provide a nice focal point while remaining open to the next room. And I like the nice detailing under the stair rail on the second floor.
Lima: While the shell of space in the living and dining room is large and features a two-story ceiling, the architectural detailing and cantilevered room over the dining space is an unusual solution that feels both inspiring and natural. The interior and architecture has an ease to it while at the same time evoking grandeur and elegance. The eye moves throughout the space effortlessly, yet there are prominent points of interest in the furnishings, colors, and architecture. This is a very memorable interior both architecturally and aesthetically. It features a gorgeous combination of intricate millwork detailing and dynamic architectural form. They got it just right in this project!
Boscarello: A dramatic and unique use of space! It is impressive how the second floor cantilevers over the dining area. And I love all the Arts and Crafts details.
Kossar: The detail of the rail and ceiling embrace and complement the art and furniture in the space.
