The $250 per ticket Hudson Valley Writers’ Center’s 2011 fundraiser, held at Tappan Hill Mansion (the former Hudson Valley estate of Mark Twain), honored community leader Aubrey Hawes and author Sergio Troncoso.
Hawes serves as a board member for Kendal on Hudson and Phelps Memorial Hospital, and holds positions on the executive committees of the Historical Society serving Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown, and Friends of the Old Dutch Burying Ground.
Troncoso is the author of The Nature of Truth and the award-winning collection, The Last Tortilla and Other Stories.
The evening started with cocktails and a silent auction; master storyteller Jonathan Kruk, known for performing the lore of the Hudson and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, appeared as an auctioneer contemporary of Mark Twain full of quips and quotes. Dinner, presentations to the honorees, and a live auction followed.
