More than 600 guests attended The Picture House’s 90th birthday gala to celebrate the recently completed restoration of the 1921 historic theater. It was held at The Hilton Rye Town in Rye Brook, and guests entered via a red carpet for a photo op and then mingled during a cocktail hour. WABC-TV Entertainment Reporter Sandy Kenyon was host/MC. Presentations were made to honorees actor Matthew Modine, director Eugene Jarecki, and Kathleen Corton, one of The Picture House organization’s founders. A live auction was held with such items as a golf trip to Hawaii, a private jet for four to Florida courtesy of Avantair, and lots of jewelry, much of it from Peridot Fine Jewelry in Larchmont. Picture House Executive Director Jennifer Christman said of the evening, “We celebrated ninety years of cinema, the new life we have given to our 1921 theater, and the new life that our theater will give to film culture in our region. We are so grateful to Melina Vourlekis and Louise Middleton, our gala co-chairs, for hosting such a spectacular evening!”
