Find for Asian Antiques
Rose Court Asian Antiques
Chappaqua (914) 244-1041 open by appointment
If you fancy wood-carved Buddhas and pottery horses like we do, you’ll want to meet Karen Schlansky and admire her absolutely astounding assortment of Asian antiques. Schlanksy, who runs the business out of her Chappaqua home with her husband and brother, has been a devotee of Asian art since childhood, when she’d accompany her father on trips to China for his leather business. Today, Schlansky makes regular sojourns to personally scout and source pieces for her varied collection, which spans the Han, Tang, and Ming dynasties.
Refrigerator Art
Tumbalina’s Fridge Magnets
Bedford Hills (914) 282-5050
When it comes to home décor, we’re not easily impressed with “cute.” We want our homes to be stylish, elegant, classic, or sleek, but hardly ever cute. With one exception: Tumbalina’s undeniably adorable fridge magnets. You can find them at Whole Foods Market in White Plains and the Beehive Co-Op in Mount Kisco. They cost $3.95 for a package of three; look for holiday-themed magnets come winter.
New Home Accessories
Milieu
Mamaroneck (914) 315-6090
Danielle Iaboni’s stellar shop features an eclectic array of unique and unusual finds to make stylish every nook and cranny in your home. Furniture, accessories, and fabrics—you’re bound to find it here.
New Design & Furnishings Center
Elemental Design Concepts
White Plains (914) 422-3323
This store had us at hello. The bathtub with a fountain, set in a koi pond; the 20-foot chandelier comprised of glass bubbles strung together with filament; the incomparably cool Neff kitchens. Owner Fred Mastroianni likes to blend the elements of nature with high-end furnishings and finishes. The shop retains a staff of painters, artists, custom woodworkers, and tile craftsmen who provide complete design and contracting services. So what you see is what you get. And we want it all.
Organic Dry Cleaner
Parkway Cleaners
Bronxville (914) 776-1001

Home Jewelry
Katonah Architectural Hardware
Katonah (914) 232-7796
It’s often the smallest things that make the biggest statements in a home, like the doorknobs, hinges, knobs, and cabinet pulls. So, do what the likes of Paul Shaffer and Mariah Carey (to name just two) have done, and dress up your doors with some fabulous “house jewelry” from this nifty little shop.

Knockout Showroom
transFORM
New Rochelle (914) 500-1000
We let our imaginations run wild at this space-redesign/home-furnishings showroom, and began imagining life as, ahem, very rich—and very organized—folks. And who could blame us? The transFORM folks have made it easy to imagine luxe libraries, dapper dressing rooms, posh pantries, cozy closets, and homey home offices. And the best part? We don’t have to be very rich—or very organized—to have our homes transformed.

California Closets
Hawthorne (914) 592-1001
When California Closets says custom, it really means custom. Unlike most home storage-solution companies, California Closets manufactures everything on site in its 40,000-square-foot building. And it believes in near instant gratification: the time from design to installation is just two to three weeks. They can whip your kids closets into shape, make your mud room manageable, and transform your master closet into a work of art with fab finishes and cool accessories like a pull-out hamper (no more dirty socks on the floor!), specialty hooks, and racks for pants, belts, ties, and scarves, at all price points. What are you waiting for? It’s time to get organized.
